gmail secure connection

Gmail has been introducing many new features these days. First it was the set of 13 features which were rolled out as Gmail Labs, then they allowed users to remotely sign-out and track gmail sessions and now they have introduced a new security feature that most of the free mail providers lack.

Gmail now allow users the ability to use SSL or secure connection while browsing Gmail. This makes data between Gmail and your browser encrypted which can come in handy while checking mails at public places.

For instance, if you are at office checking your Gmail account, and urgently have to go out. You forgot to close your Gmail account and fear someone might read your private mails. Gmail team is always on one thing or the other. Yesterday, they rolled out Gmail Labs, a portal for all the upcoming and experimental Gmail features. These experimental features are developed by the Google employees as their personal projects for Gmail. With Gmai Labs, you can browse and try all the upcoming Gmail features that are still in development. Google engineers created these features for Gmail in their 20% time. Gina Trapani, of Lifehacker, has released an updated version of her popular Gmail customization addon, Better Gmail 2. This addon is a combination of dozens of Greasemonkey scripts and with this, you can tweak the heck out of the new Gmail interface. This add-on is one of my personal favourites.

Better Gmail 2

The latest version, Better Gmail 2 0.4 now supports HTML signatures, Firefox 3 compatibility, Gmail Redesigned skin, and many other small fixes. After you install this add-on, you can enable what ever features you want in Gmail from the Firefox Tools menu and all you have to do is refresh your Gmail window for the changes to take effect.

Gmail themes are not a new thing to users, who are using already skinning their Gmail using third-party tools like Greasemonkey, GMail Skins (Firefox add-on), custom user stylesheets etc. But officially, you can only change Gmail views like mobile, HTML (for slow connections), Standard View or Standard View without Google Talk gadget.

Faster Gmail For Slow Connection Users

If you haven’t noticed, Gmail has rolled out new improvements today, to their Loading interface while signing in for Gmail. It now has a new loading screen with a loading bar that shows the progress of how much Gmail has been loaded and an option to load your Inbox in basic HTML.

Gmail New Loading Progress Bar

Dial-up users or slow connection users can click the link Load Basic HTML while Gmail loads and it will open much faster than before. You won’t the usual Ajax-powered Gmail, but still, you can at least check your mails if you are in a hurry.

This topic would sound absurd, but it really isn’t, so keep on reading :) Have you ever blocked a contact in Google Talk? Well, recently a friend of mine was annoying me a lot. I even warned him not to disturb, but he kept on bugging me, so in the end the only choice I had was to block him. After block, I worked in peace but the next day I felt sorry for what I have done and wanted to unblock him back. But to my surprise, there was no way I can unblock him from Google Talk itself.

I know, this is very weird, but when I blocked him, Google Talk blocked and deleted him from my list. In the end, I did found how to get the contact unblocked back. In thsi post, I’ll tell you how to unblock contacts.

Gmail

Who doesn’t know about Gmail? Everyone knows about it! That’s because it is the best webmail. It has loads of features. Almost everything, but recently I found out that it does lack of one thing. And that is emoticons. Yes, Gmail doesn’t have emoticons to be used while composing mails.

But no worries readers. I have found a Greasemonkey script that allows you to use emoticons in your mails. It’s been a while since I last posted about a nice Greasemoneky script. So, here I’m with a very cool script that I’m sure all Gmail users would love to use.

How To View Gmail Messages with Feed Aggregator

by DJ Flush on August 13, 2007
in Tips and Tricks

Hello :) This is Dj Flush all over from Sizlopedia. Today I have something interesting to share with you on behalf of Haris as he is busy with his exams. Don’t forget to check my blog for more tips, technology news, gadgets, software, blogging and wordpress tricks ;)

Of course everyone of us is a Gmail fan as it gives us the flexible features which other email clients don’t. Gmail differs from other email clients like Yahoo Mail and Windows Live Mail in the sense that is very much easy to use, it is very much fast and it has a syndication feed (Oh Yes! you heard me right there). This is a feature of Gmail that other popular email clients don’t have and most of us are aware of it but don’t know how to use it and thats where I come to the rescue :D

The syndication feed of Gmail messages can be used to read your newest emails in your Gmail account inbox from outside your Gmail account or should I say using a third party Feed reader application. Follow these simple little steps to configure your Feed reader to fetch your latest email from your Gmail account inbox.

  1. Open your Feed aggregator/reader software
  2. Select the option “Subscribe/Add Feed” and enter the following URL in the field

    https://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom

  3. Authenticate yourself using your Gmail username and password

Woah! Thats it :D now your Feed reader will fetch email updates from your Google account automatically and you don’t need to sign in again and again to your Gmail account through your browser to read your mail.

Keep in mind: Some feed readers make a feed “Public” by default so make sure you make this feed “Private” so that no one except you can read your mails :) Have fun
