The Yahoo! search has undergone another revamp and now the search engine includes real-time search suggestions when users start typing their search queries into the search box. This feature has been previously provided by Google, and Yahoo! search with its incorporation moves a step closer to challenge Google’s dominance of the search domain.

The real-time search suggestions work beautifully, with relevant suggestions as we type our queries. The suggestions improve when multiple word search queries are entered. This feature should be a welcome feaure for all those who still use Yahoo! search. This moves comes in the middle of several actions being taken by Yahoo which include making Android apps and developing an interest in buying billions of dollars of their stock.

This new microblogging service is more of a Twitter-Tumblr mashup with a combination of features from both of those services. We did need to have a service with options like posting photos, videos etc, with ease and flexibility of Twitter.

Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta version is now available for download. Several new features and improvements have been added.

According to Yahoo, the webcam feature has been completely redesigned which allow users to make high-quality (including full screen) video calls with synced audio right in the IM windows.

Contact list has also been enhanced. The normal contact list is now displayed with status messages of contacts, or optionally, you can also add their Twitter status or other social stream updates. Plus you now have more ways to organize your contacts.

Today, Yahoo! Mobile got redesigned and now features much more eye-candy.

A New Zealand-based development team at WackyB, has created a plugin for Yahoo Messenger that syncs your status messages between Yahoo Messenger and Twitter.

With this plugin, you can know what your friends are up to through Twitter, as well as on Yahoo Messenger without needing a separate desktop Twitter client or opening your browser to update. You can configure several options like update interval, sound alerts on new tweets, pop-up alerts etc.

This plugin is compatible with Yahoo Messenger 9.0 only. Do give this a try, and I’m sure all Twitahoo fans (Twitter-Yahoo) are going to love it!

Yahoo messenger for Vista was a custom IM client developed specifically for Windows Vista with graphical rich user interface. It offers the same set of features that other Windows version offers, and has no bugs as far as I know. The only feature missing is the webcam support for video calls, but that can be easily skipped.

According to the official Yahoo Messenger blog post,

As of today, Yahoo! Messenger for Vista will no longer be available for download from the Yahoo! Messenger website. We have discontinued stand-alone releases of the Yahoo! Messenger for Vista application in order to focus on delivering one Windows experience that is optimized for all Windows users.

This is a sad news indeed, for all Yahoo! Messenger fans using it on Windows Vista. You can still continue to use it as it does not have an major bugs or security flaws. I searched my PC for a Yahoo Messenger for Vista setup file which I downloaded for a friend (Yes, I’m still a XP user!). VIsta users who want to use it can download from the link below.

Remember, Yahoo! will not be providing any support or updates for Yahoo! Messenger for Vista.

Smush It is a service that goes beyond the limitations of Photoshop, Fireworks & Co. It uses image format specific non-lossy image optimization tools to squeeze the last bytes out of your images – without changing their look or visual quality.

According to them, lots of more optimizations could be done, even after using good image editing tools. So Smush It comes out with the objective of doing it online and in a much better way.

You can add images (which are to be optimized) by three methods:

• Install a Firefox Extension to optimize the images found on any web page

After the optimization completes, a ZIP archive with optimized images in it will be generated for you to download.

This tool also looks useful to me and I’ll be definitely using it in future. I recommend this to all webmasters.

Yahoo is still silent on the exec. departures even with their stock price going down day by day. They haven’t spoke a word about it anywhere. Today, TechCrunch reported about a new Yahoo home page being unveiled at Yahoo Australia. A new Yahoo logo was also spotted in the wild previously, but there were no expectations for a new home page design. You can take the tour of the beta design here. It’s still in beta, so you can expect some changes while the final design releases.

The page is still cluttered, but well-arranged this time. One thing I don’t get is what does that Yahoo!7 logo mean? Do let me know what you think of this new home for Yahoo.

These ads were inserted at the bottom of every message, which were short messages comprising of various products. Yahoo, at the moment, is under pressure to increase its revenue and would sell every ad it has. But I don’t think these taglines would make much difference so they thought to remove it.

Since Yahoo! has released Yahoo Messenger 8, they started displaying ads at the bottom of the window. Yahoo! Messenger, itself is crowded with stuff like Radio, plugins etc. and with ads it looks very ugly. It gets really annoying when they display flashy animated ads.

In this post, I’ll tell you how to remove those ads from the bottom of Yahoo! Messenger 8 and 9 Beta.

NOTE: After you remove the ads, you won’t be able to use the Chat Room feature. So, don’t try this trick if you use that feature.

How to remove ads in Yahoo! Messenger 8

1. Make sure your Yahoo! Messenger is closed.

2. Download and save this batch (.bat) file anywhere in your PC and execute it.

Done! :P Yeah, really… It’s done!

What actually happened

The batch file you downloaded changes the following registry entries from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Yahoo\pager\YUrl

• Messenger Ad
• Webcam Upload Ad
• Webcam Viewer Ad
• Webcam Viewer Ad Big
• Webcam Viewer Ad Medium
• Change Room Banner
• Conf Adurl
• Chat Adurl

The data value of the above entries is changed to an asterisk (*).

How to remove ads in Yahoo! Messenger 9 Beta

The above procedure doesn’t work for the version 9 Beta. So I found an alternate method to remove the ads. But remember, by trying this you are breaking Yahoo! Messenger’s terms of service.

1. Exit Yahoo! Messenger.

2. Backup C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe by creating a new copy.

3. Download a hex editor (recommended: HxD)

4. Open C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe in the hex editor.

5. Go to the offset 295928 (in HxD: Search/GoTo)

Just got an invite from Shankar! It’s really cool! Wondering what I’m talking about? It’s the new social networking place recently rolled out by Yahoo! called Yahoo! Mash.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I won’t be able to review Yahoo! Mash. I have high fever, soar throat and cold. :( Don’t worry, I won’t leave you thirsty… I’ll give a sneak peak of what Yahoo Mash is.

Yahoo Mash is similar to Orkut, Myspace, Facebook etc. It’s invite-based and is completely AJAXified. Every member gets his own profile page and unlike Orkut, he can edit it the way he wants. You can even edit the page using custom CSS. I’ll leave the rest for you to explore.

Recently, Yahoo! released the beta 2 version of Yahoo! Messenger for MAC 3.0. I have never used MAC before, and since I recently, stumbled across a few screenshots, I’m dying to try it out.

Features:

• Automatic updates
• Conference sessions
• IM indicator in the OS X doc
• Tabbed chat sessions
• Mobile connectivity
• Stealth settings

One feature, that I, and many other Yahoo! Messenger fans wanted to see added was the voice chat feature. maybe they’ll add later sometime. Accroding to them, they rae still worknig on that feature. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and wait :) . This version of Yahoo! Messenger only works on Mac OSX 10.4 or later. So what are you waiting for? Give it a try now! Download here.

Are you one of those who like to manage and have more than one email address for their IMs. Well, if you are then, this topic is going to help all the Yahoo! Messenger addicts who like to manage more than one account at a time in Yahoo! Messenger.

This trick will enable you to use more than one account in Yahoo! Messenger. It’s really very simple to do. A small registry hack is needed to do it.

Remember: Back up your registry before making any changes to it.

Now we’ll move on to the main trick.

Make sure your Yahoo! Messenger is not running. If it is, then close it.

Now, open your Registry Editor (Run > type regedit) and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\yahoo\pager\Test

There, in the right-pane, right-click anywhere and select New > DWORD Value. Name the entry as “Plural” (of course, without the quotes). Double-click the newly made entry (Plural), and assign it a value 1.

That’s it! Your Yahoo! Messenger has successfully been turned into Multi-Yahoo! Messenger.

Alternate Method

If you don’t want to mess up with the registry yourself, then I have exported the registry entry for you. Simply, download this registry file and excute it. Your Yahoo! Messenger will now be patched to work with as many accounts you want.

Now, you can open as many accounts as you want in one time. All you have to do is open messenger again from the same place you started it before. For instance, if you’ve opened your Yahoo Messenger from a shortcut on your desktop, then execute the shortcut again form the desktop. Do now start from soemwhere else.

I hope you got my point, and would enjoy the trick as much as I’m enjoying it.

Then I searched a bit more about it and found that there are some hidden emoticons in Yahoo! Messenger which doesn’t appears in the emoticon menu instead by typing the symbols directly into an instant message.

These emoticons are really rocking and cool like of on a alien and many more. Check the image below for the symbols of each hidden emoticon.
