This WordPress has been built in conjunction Small Society, to bring the WordPress blogging experience to this new Apple device. No new features have been added in this release, other than it now supports the large iPad screen.

The latest update to the WordPress 2 for iPhone app has been approved by Apple and is now available in the iTunes App Store for download.

This latest updated version is more focused comment moderation, which includes:

• Reply to Comments
• Edit Comments
• Highlighting the new items in the comment list

This will definitely make the comments experience much better while you’re on the go. iPhone users won’t have to wait till they get to a computer to moderate comments on their blogs.

Now I just hope this feature comes soon to the WordPress for Android app.

Android version of WordPress was finally released today and is now available in the Android Market.

WordPress for Android Features

Features include the ability to:

• Configure and manage multiple blogs
• Comment moderation including the ability to reply to comments
• Create and Edit Posts including categories, tags and photos
• Create and Edit Pages
• Get notified of new comments in the Android notification bar

The current release v1.0 offers you enough features so you manage your blog and write posts while on the go. This release is pretty stable. I couldn’t get the screenshots up because of my Nexus One drivers are not working on Windows 7.

Recently, many WordPress websites have been getting hacked and now it has been confirmed by a WordPress developer himself that older versions of WordPress are under attack.

There were several bugs that were over-looked earlier when WordPress 2.8.1 was released, but the WP community got into the depth and have found those holes now.

Personally, I think they should have come with an Android or Symbian version first. Symbian already has a third-party blogging app for WordPress which is being used by many.

So moving on to the relevant topic, WordPress is out with the latest beta version of WordPress for BlackBerry 0.9.0.140. I liked the idea of making a beta product available for public to gather better feedback.

Some of the changes you’ll see in this update are:

• Improving response time of the user interface
• Removing the photo multimedia option in the app because photo settings are managed in the main BlackBerry camera app
• Fixing a bug with local drafts
• Adding prompts to save post when clicking “Back” button
• Fixing a bug involving categories

• Loads user’s avatar by matching the email address to the user’s Twitter email address.
• If user doesn’t have a Twitter account, it first tries to load user’s gravatar. If user doesn’t have a gravatar, it loads a default image. This is an optional setting.

Finally the first beta of WordPress 2.7 is now available for download. The WP Team has been working hard on the pretty visuals you will see. At the moment, there are many glitches in WP 2.7 for IE and Opera, but it works fine in Firefox and Safari.

For all those who are eagerly waiting for the full version of WordPress 2.7, there’s a small bad news. It won’t be releasing on November 10th, 2008 as planned before since the WP Team is two weeks behind schedule. What you get on Nov 10, is a Release Candidate release of WP 2.7.

Nothing has been said about the final release date, but they won’t take long since the Release Candidate version will be released next week. For now, enjoy the first beta!

Many blogs have comment moderation enabled to prevent from spam. Even this blog uses comment moderation, and I daily have to moderate a big pile of comments. This has just been made easy, thanks to Daniel.

Moderator is an AIR-based app that lets you moderate comments on your WordPress-powered blogs right from your dekstop in rela-time and you don’t have to login to your Dashboard just to approve/unapprove comments. Some features included in this early release are:

• Viewing unmoderated comments.
• Dock and system tray notifications of the number of unmoderated comments.
• Accept, delete, and spam comments from within the desktop client.
• Close application window, or minimize it to the system tray while running.
• Shows the Gravatar icons for the user who posted the comment.

Moderate also supports the upcoming WordPress 2.7. Since this is an early release, expect it to be buggy. The only two requirements this app needs is WordPress 2.6+ and Adobe AIR 1.1.

All WordPress users should upgrade to the latest WordPress version to avoid being a victim of this particular vulnerability. There are many obvious and less obvious ways to upgrade WordPress, a few possible ways, in decreasing order of required time, are:

• Download the latest WordPress source, unzipde it on your harddisk, connect to your server via ftp and transfer the files. Then follow the upgrade instructions on the WordPress website. This is the method Windows users are most likely to use ;-)
• Do the above, but transfer files via scp
• Log on to your server via ssh / putty, do a wget http://wordpress.org/download/ to download the latest installer zip file. Unzip using unzip latest.zip. mv the required files to your WordPress folder and run the installer using the instructions from the WordPress website.
• Download and install the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin on your WordPress blog. Go to the plugin page and follow the simple instructions each time there is a new upgrade available. This is suitable if you are running a single blog.
• If you want to upgrade from 2.6.2 to version 2.6.3 , you simply need two files [file1] and [file2]. Just download and overwrite these files in your wp-includes folder, afte changing their permissions, using any one of the methods listed above. Doing it via ssh/wget/cp should take less than a minute.

Whichever method you choose to use, do keep your WordPress installation up-to-date to avoid potential problems and hacking attempts.

Several complaints have been heard from people about Google Analytics saying that it updates only once in 24-48 hours and does not include any sort of live visitor tracking tool. • One Click Plugin Installs – Zip upload, extract and install plugins directly from your dashboard without opening your FTP client.
• WordPress core updates – Easily upgrade your WordPress installation files with the latest version and without going through the hectic procedure of upgrading manually.
• Default Sitemaps – WordPress 2.7 will include a default sitemap creator, which will create Google XML sitemaps for your blog.
• Comment Threading – This feature will allow users to reply to other commentators in a threaded manner. Will work best for blogs with large discussion topics.
• Dashboard and write box rearranging – This feature will allow users to re-arrange the widgets on the dashboard and write page to suit their preferences.
• Admin Panel Comment Replies – According to this feature, administrators will be able to reply to comments using the admin dashboard. Currently, there are several plugins that offer similar functionality.
• Subscribe to Comments – The WP team is also planning to include an option to allow commentators to subscribe to follow up comments through email.

Yesterday, the first release candidate of WP 2.6 (codename Tyner) was released and a day later, the final version of WordPress 2.6 is out and is now available for download.

WordPress again brings in lots of new features and usability improvements with its latest version. They have also done some minor tweaks to improve its security.

What’s hot and new in WordPress 2.6

• One of the major features to be added is the WordPress Turbo, that uses Google Gears to save your WordPress Dashboard files on PC and load pages at lightening speed.
• Then comes Post Revision, with which one can track all the changes made to their posts and restore any old saved data if needed.
• The Press This! bookmarklet is back. This was one feature that many people missed in WordPress 2.5.
• Now blog admins can preview themes on their blog using Theme Preview without making them live for everyone. You can test it for possible errors and fix them before applying it for everyone.

It’s just two days before the final WordPress 2.6 is out, and a release candidate version has released today. It is now available for download. WordPress 2.6 is all ready to be out on Monday, and again a number of bugs have been fixed in this release. Below is a quick look at what major fixes have been done.

With the launch of Apple App Store, new iPhone applications are popping up everywhere. WordPress and Facebook has released their official apps for iPhone and iPod Touch.

WP iPhone app is the first app that brings WordPress to iPhone. And is the first and the only open-source app in iTunes App Store. It has all the usual features that a blogger needs like post writing, managing, categories, preview option and uploading photos directly from camera. It works well with WordPress.com blogs and with self-hosted blogs powered by WordPress 2.5.1 or higher.

Facebook isn’t staying behind. An official native Facebook app for iPhone has also been released today bringing high degree of mobility.

You can browse profiles, chat with your friends, check your friend’s status or update your own, sent private messages and tons of more stuff. You can even instantly upload photos to your Facebook Albums by taking it from the iPhone camera.

Both of these apps can be downloaded through the iTunes App Store.

The latest beta version of WordPress 2.6 has been released. Ryan Boren announced earlier today about WordPress 2.6 Beta 2 being released to public today. This beta release is all about bug fixes and improvements, because all the new features that are supposed to be in the final WP 2.6, were introduced in Beta 1, so this time they focused on improving them, rather than adding any new features.

What’s new in WP 2.6 Beta 2?

• Insert image and edit image fixes
• SSL fixes
• i18n fixes
• Lots of new inline documentation
• Improved tag auto-suggest
• TinyMCE 3.1.1 with Opera 9.5 and Safari fixes, proper align = center removal, and improved embeds support

Finally, the first beta of WordPress 2.6 has been released, with many new features in it and is now available for download. WordPress is one of the world’s favourite blogging platform. This release won’t be as big as WordPress 2.5, but will be worth upgrading to, because of the number of interesting new features it has. WordPress 2.6 is slated for a mid-July release which will have many usability improvements including the features mentioned below.

I waited for about 3 months before I finally upgraded to WordPress 2.5 after its release, but looks like I will now upgrade to WordPress 2.6 as soon as it gets released because of its new features.

On WordPress’ birthday, I published a screenshot of my upcoming WordPress theme, which will be based on the new Dashboard theme of WordPress. I’m actually a big WordPress fan, and wanted to use a theme like the dashboard. But unfortunately, I didn’t found any and ended up in making one my own. The theme is very simple and clear in design and offers fresh colours that don’t go hard on eyes. Since the past few days, lots of changes have been made in it. I’m still experimenting with better fonts to match it exactly with the default Dashboard theme.

I’ve decided to name it DashPress (Dash for Dashboard, and Press for WordPress) after much brainstorming. I’ll be releasing it in a couple of weeks (or may be earlier) since I’ve got lots of other work to do as well these days. I’d suggest you to subscribe to my RSS feed to know about the latest updates on the theme.

I’ve set up a demo site for everyone to test and see what the theme will be like and let me know what you think about it. This will be my very first theme, and will be my first attempt to come out with something like this using CSS. I used trial and error method to make this theme. I’m still trying to fix as many bugs as I can. Any help, suggestions or feedback would be highly appreciated.

Here’s a small WordPress tip I would like to share with you all. As you all know, previously, I took a 4 months break because of my exams. In the meanwhile, you you kept getting posts on Sizzled Core regularly for some time, even when I was busy studying. That’s one of the features why I love WordPress so much. WordPress has a built-in feature by which you could time-stamp your posts for later publishing.

Like if you plan to go on a tour to a different city/country for a week, and you know you won’t get time to blog, then all you have to do is sit down one fine day (before going), write down posts for the next 7 days and time stamp them one for each day. Pretty useful, eh? Your readers won’t even notice much difference whether you wrote it that very day, or was it written at some other day.

How To Schedule Posts For Later Publishing In WordPress

1. Complete your post in the WordPress dashboard of your blog.

2. After completing, in the right sidebar menu, under Publish Status, you will see Publish immediately.

3. Click the Edit link beside it.

4. Set the date and time of whenever you want your post to get published.

5. Click Publish (don’t click Save, or it won’t get lined up for publishing).

Next time you leave for a holiday, don’t forget to write down posts for your readers to avoid traffic loss! I hope this trick has been useful to you, and do tell me if you already use this tick and how does this helps you.

It feels so good back to blogging! A day earlier than what I said, but I think it’s fine. Well, to start of with things, I missed out the most anticipated release of WordPress 2.5 and I’m still on the same, crappy old WordPress 2.2. I’ll upgrade in few days.

I just saw in my Dashboard that a newer version of WordPress had just released (10 min. ago), WordPress 2.5.1. It’s a security fix to the previous version.

According to the official blog, it contains a number of bug fixes, performance tweaks and a very important security fix. If you’ve just upgraded to WordPress 2.5, and don’t feel like upgrading it so soon, you can update the fixed files only. Download wp-includes/pluggable.php, wp-admin/includes/media.php, and wp-admin/media.php. And replace them with the existing copies.

By the way, I would suggest you to do a full upgrade, because you will be getting over 70 other fixes. Here are some of the highlights from the official blog:

• Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
• Better performance for those who have many categories

A couple of weeks ago, some guy backed up my blog data (thanks to BlogBackupOnline), and was about to sell it off on Digital Point forums under the title Database of PR3 Blog for Sale (hey, I’m PR4 not PR3 :P ) for $20. I was watching my blog visitors through the Live plugin when surprisingly I started getting visitors from Digital Point. Just out of curiosity, I opened the traffic source, and found what was going on.

I reported that guy, but instead of banning him, those idiot admins at DP banned me for using multiple accounts even though I just have one. Luckily, the database wasn’t sold to anyone! :D When I found that I’m banned on DP, I made 10 new accounts and when I checked them today, they all were still working lol. The whole point of this article was to make all the bloggers aware of the disadvantages of this service.

I backed up three blogs yesterday. There was no one to stop me! You can see the screenshot below:

What could be done?

Hmm.. I went through the FAQ pages of BlogBackupOnline and found their support email address (support@techrigy.com). Everyone mail and request them to block their blog from getting backed up. Or what happened with me, could also happen with you!

2. Good Host: If you have a self-hosted blog, then host it on a reliable host. Make sure your is a reliable one, has no downtimes and has 24/7 support. (If anyone has written a good article on importance of good web-hosting, please let me know below. I’ll add the link here.)

3. Nice Theme: You should have a nice, clear and simple template. Don’t make it full of images, because that will increase the loading time of your blog. Remember, your theme gives the first impression of your blog. Read Nirmal’s post for more info. on selecting a theme.

4. Feed Button: Place the feed link/icon in the first fold of your blog. The feed icon should not be too big or too small. Use a medium sized icon depending on your blog layout. For more tips, visit Shankar’s place.

5. Comment on other blogs: Well, yes. This is important! Or you, yourself, won’t get any comments on your blog. So, this is a must. When I started out blogging, I used to be very lazy in commenting on other blogs, but the result was that I hardly got a comment the whole week. Read more tips by Brown.

6. Reply to comments: It’s good to respond all the comments given on your posts. Your blog looks more active this way. Don’t ever piss of your readers. If you do want to do, read some tips to piss of readers by Shaun and read another good article on how to increase comments on your blogs by Nirmal.

7. Participate in discussions: Participate in discussions on other blogs.Participation doesn’t mean you start spamming. Make a comment related to the topic. This will help your blog gain some exposure.

8. Join Link Directories: Join as many link directories as you can. It gets you link backs, and link backs help you get a higher PageRank.

As this is my first attempt in giving out tips, I’m sure there will be many points I’ll be missing. Feel free to point out my mistakes, or add more tips below. I’d appreciate them all.

I always have an interest in searching for nice and glassy feed icons. And this time, I did stumbled across something very cool, Glass-Style RSS/Feed Icons. I’ve been able to get a nice screenshot and a preview of how they look from their official page

Errors with their fixes

1. If you get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_option() in [...]/wp-content/themes/k2/theloop.php on line 28

To fix this, disable all the plugins that load their own version of prototype.js.

2. If you get this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_bootstrap() in /home/mybattle/public_html/wp02/wp-content/themes/k2/app/

includes/sbm-stub.php on line 24

You will have to re-install the theme from scratch, because the file structure have change. This error occurs while installing K2 0.9.6 on top of a previous installation.

3. For this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: is_active_module() in /home/…wp-content/themes/k2/theloop.php on line 76

I don’t know the actual reason for this error, but this error is fixed in the latest version 0.9.6. So, if you are getting this, make sure you are using K2 0.9.6, not 0.9.5.

These were the only errors I found with the fixes. If you know any other common error that you have come across, then feel free to share it here. Your additions will be highly appreciated. If you still have some question regarding a problem, the K2 Support Forums are always open.

Finally, I have found a way by which you can reduce spam by 99.% in your WordPress blogs. I was getting a lot of spam messages daily and this was the reason why I had to enable comment moderation :( . But now, I have finally got rid of this problem by using just two plugins :) .

I was already using Akismet, but now I have also started using Challenge. Akismet was not filtering out all the spam. I was still getting spam as comments. So, I googled some anti-spam plugins for WordPress and found Challenge. You must have seen that 2+2= in the comments :P . That’s Challenge. The combination of both Akismet and Challenge reduces spam up to 99.9%. It’s been more than a week since I installed Challenge, and till now, I haven’t received any spam comment :D . Even Akismet isn’t receiving any spam comments.

I would recommend everyone to use both of these plugins. This way I don’t even have to enable comment moderation, and this really helps me in getting more comments on my posts.

You guys must have noticed that a few days back I changed Sizzled Core’s theme from iTheme to Envision. But since that day, my WordPress.com Stats plugin was not working. The stats were not updating and it continued that way for 3 days. Then I mailed at WordPress.com support and from there I came to know about the fix.

The problem in my case was that Envision did not have <?php wp_footer(); ?> in its footer.php

Many themes don’t have this. So it’s better to put <?php wp_footer(); ?> in your theme’s footer.php to avoid any problems later on. If ever you get stuck in such problem all you need to do is just copy the above given code and paste it anywhere in your footer.php. This will fix the problem and the plugin will continue collecting your blog’s data without any loss.

Apart from publicizing your blog in the usual manner, such as advertising on bulletin boards, on Orkut, MySpace, submitting them on various link directories etc. you use this sweet technique to gain popularity in the blogosphere.

Requirements:

There are only two requirements for this to work

• A WordPress.com blog, get one here if you dont have (secondary blog)
• A primary blog (like www.myblog.com)

Now comes the real part:

When you post something in your primary blog, remember to use the more tag just after the few first lines of the post making it more tempting to be read . After you publish it, open your secondary blog (the WP.com one) and from your dashboard, go to Write. Then come back to your primary blog’s frontpage, copy everything you just posted (I mean the summary – Everything before the more tag) including the “Continue Reading…” or “Read the rest of this entry” link. And then paste it in the text box of the Write Post page (You just opened it! ). Title could be anything related to the original title, but it’s better to give the same (original) title. Press Publish and you are done! Now rest of the work will be done by WP itself.

As you all know that WordPress.com has a circulator, it will circulate your post in the entire WordPress.com, resulting in getting you some traffic .

However this can slow down posting a lot and can even break your post markup. For this we have a magic plugin called No Ping Wait by Robert Deaton. What this plugin does is that it speeds up posting by moving generic pings to execute-pings.php thus making pinging a totally different process to posting and in return your posts are published fast and even pinged to all pinging sites.

5. Google Sitemaps:
This plugin, created by Arne Brachhold, no wonder, is the King of all SEO Plugins for WordPress. XML Sitemaps are very important key elements to get indexed by the Search Engine Daddies. This plugin creates an XML Sitemap of your blog on the fly which is supported by Google, MSN Live Search, Yahoo and other big search engines. This is very important and must not be ignored in cases such as determination of Google Pagerank. If you do not redirect all your traffic to WWW trust me on this one you will most likely have 2 different pageranks for your blog. One will be of the WWW domain and the other will be of No-WWW domain. Thus the plugin is effective in getting you a constant Google Pagerank which is an evaluation of your site popularity in Search Engines.
