First and foremost, I feel that it is imperative that I mention that if you’ve tried Hitman Pro in the past, you will have to dismiss any preconceived notions that you might have about. Hitman Pro 3 is nothing like previous versions.

To me Hitman Pro idea is awesome in theory: combine the databases/knowledge of a bunch of the best spyware programs, set them up so that only one program has to be installed, and run them consecutively until all the problems are gone. The downside was, that it focused mostly on spyware and less on virus detection.

Hitman Pro 2 automatically downloaded and configured each of the eight programs it used, which save one a lot of haste and time, but still required more time than most would like to to spend installing something.  It also took a lot of time for 8 programs to run their course (scan/remove), which made the whole experience cumbersome. On top of all that, Hitman Pro 2 consumed a lot of space on the hard drive, as well as, quite a bit of the computer’s resources when running.

So what’s so different about the new version, you might ask?  EVERYTHING! In fact, I would consider Hitman Pro 3 and the new technology therein nothing less than, groundbreaking. Hitman Pro 3 does not require a lengthy process of downloading 8 separate programs, it is now one small download (4.37MB), which can be run form a USB stick, and installs in seconds.  Like previous versions Hitman Pro 3 utilizes a (new) combination of famous high quality programs to detect, and remove viruses and other malware; however, how it achieve that is completely different, and by all rights, far better.

Hitman Pro 3 scan the hard drive front to back, as opposed to other antivirus programs, which scan in alphabetical order, causing the head of the drive to skip around and ultimately slow the whole process. A new revolutionary innovation in scan technique is used to distinct malicious and safe software. Hitman Pro 3 knows upfront which files are not interesting, and which belong to the operating system by checking the (valid) digital signatures on executable files and a white list containing signatures of known safe files. Also, Hitman Pro 3 has signatures of all important Windows 2000, and Windows Vista files. These files are automatically bypassed.

Furthermore, in time Hitman Pro 3 learns what files on your system are good, bad, and questionable, and when the later two are present, is uses a multi-vendor real-time confirmation cloud comprised of Prevx (Herd Intelligence), Avira (AntiVir), ESET (NOD32 Antivirus), Emsi Software (a-squared Anti-Spyware and Ikarus Anti-Virus) to scan them. The new innovations in the scanning process and file detection allows Hitman Pro 3 to achieve it’s goal in under 5 minutes (on most systems). And, thanks to “profiling” (a.k.a. a built-in whitelist of profiled Windows systems – 2000 through Vista) it’s impossible to make false positives on important systems files.

Other Features Include

• Automatically restores common system alterations made by malicious software.
• Creates a check point in System Restore before removing malicious software.
• Removes resistant threats using a native NT boot-time deleter.
• Recognizes and removes not just spyware but also viruses, Trojan horses, rootkits and other malware.
• Also removes references to malicious software (like shortcuts and registry entries).

The downside to all of this is that Hitman Pro 3 is only available for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/2003/2008, and is no longer completely free. Currently they are offering a 30 complete free trial, which will detect and remove viruses, Trojan horses, rootkits and other malware. After the trial you’ll still be able to download it and use it to scan and detect malicious files on your system, but in order to remove them you’ll have to purchase a key, or find some other way around it. Oh yea, and for some unknown reason, parts of the program remain in Dutch? Nonetheless, with a little common sense one can figure it out.

Yep, I’m talking about Facebook. It is rumoured, that this Facebook mobile phone would be launched by Hong Kong’s Hutchison Whampoa Ltd through its new handset unit INQ Mobile.

According to Julie Ask, Jupiter Media Analyst:

The phone’s target market was relatively small, consisting of people “who want to be connected to their social network multiple times a day”. It’s going to generate a lot of buzz and it’s going to set a bar for what mobile social network experience on a phone should be.

Frank Meehan chief, executive of INQ, told Forbes that Facebook Mobile Phone will have a price of less than $200, with integration INQ1’s contacts book with popular social sites like Facebook. This is something we don’t find in the current mobile phones, and will give Facebook Mobile Phone an edge over Nokia, Apple and Google.

I’ve have a feeling that if this phone really comes out, then it will be named as fPhone or PhoneBook ;)

Performance wise they have made major upgrade from N95. Symbian OS 3rd Edition (Feature Pack 2) is much faster than any of the previous N-series handsets. Battery life is the best I’ve seen so far which could easily take out two days with normal usage. But needs charging once a day with frequent camera and WiFi, GPS usage.

Its 5 megapixel camera is one of the best in the industry with dual flash. One more thing that has to be mentioned here is the faster processing speed than its predecessor, Nokia N95. The kick-stand at the back allows one to have a better video watching experience. Speakers are positioned such that when N96 is held horizontally, they come at the top for best stereo sound experience.

My N96 came preloaded with a few Arabic tracks and complete Transformers movie along with its high-quality trailer which is not less than HD quality when connected to a TV screen.

Last month, Emaar Properties unveiled a world-class permanent water fountain project with an integral light and sound show for Downtown Burj Dubai. It will be the world’s largest fountain at over 900 ft (275 metres) in length, equivalent to that of over two football fields and it is about 25 per cent larger than The Fountains at Bellagio in Las Vegas in area. Powerful water nozzles will shoot water sprays to heights of over 500 ft (150 metres), equivalent to that of a 50-story building.

The fountains – which are yet to be named – will feature over 6,600 lights and 50 colour projectors that will create a vibrant visual spectrum of over 1,000 different water expressions by shooting 22,000 gallons of water. The total cost to built this is AED 800 million (US$218 million)! This project is expected to draw over 10 million visitors annually.

The fountain on Burj Dubai Lake is more than a visual spectacle that adds to the aesthetics of Downtown Burj Dubai. It is an engineering marvel and will further contribute to Dubai’s rich array of tourist attractions.

The fountain is positioned next to Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building, and The Dubai Mall, one of the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destinations. As I have said before, these fountains are yet to be named, and a cash prize of $27,225 will be given to the person who suggests the perfect name for this water fountain project.

This fountain project is scheduled to be operational in 2009!

Google today announced about its latest application, Google Media Server. It’s a Windows application, powered by Google Desktop, finds photos, music, and video and makes it available to DLNA devices. These devices include PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and most media center PCs. That means you can now watch your media files on your TV, with the help of Google Media Server.

Google Media Server is a Windows application that aims to bridge the gap between Google and your TV. It uses Google Desktop technology such as Desktop gadgets for the administration tool and Google Desktop Search to locate media files. All you need is a PC running Google Desktop and a UPnP-enabled device (e.g. a PlayStation 3). At the touch of a button, you can then:

• Access videos, music, and photos stored on your PC
• View Picasa Web Albums
• Play your favorite YouTube videos

The biggest rumour of this year has finally come to a sweet end. Yes, I’m talking about the big Apple rumour. iPhone 3G has been announced by Steve Jobs at WWDC 2008 today! I’ve been watching the whole of today’s event like a hawk and can’t express how much excited I was. The new iPhone 3G is available in two colours, black and white and in two memory sizes, 8GB and 16GB.

iPhone 3G is even more thinner now! Hard to believe, eh? It has a black plastic back (white in white edition), solid metal buttons, same gorgeous display, camera, flush headphone jack, and an improved audio. Data downloads is very fast which makes it perfect for Safari and Mail.

iPhone 3G is capable of providing data rates up to 3 times that of EDGE. If compared to other 3G phones like Nokia N95 and Treo 750, iPhone is in the lead which is 36% more faster. Battery life has been improved on iPhone 3G. 300 hours of standby, 2G talk-time now has 10 hours (as opposed to 5), 5 hours of 3G talk-time (most phones only have 3 hour 3G talk time), 5 to 6 hours of high-speed browsing, 7 hours of video, 24 hours of audio. Can it get any better?

Another feature that everyone has been waiting for was GPS support. iPhone 3G is now powered with GPS support for live tracking. Currently, GPS covers 70 countries.

iPhone 3G will be available by July 11th in 22 countries, and will cost $199 for 8GB black edition and $299 for 16GB white edition.

WWDC 2008 is going to continue till June 13th, so we can still expect more surprises from Steve Jobs. So keep yourself tuned as I will also be posting about other releases and announcements.

Yay, WWDC 2008 is just 24 hours away now! The wait is finally going to get over. If you think you live on Mars, and don’t know what this is all about. Well, Apple’s new 3G iPhone (aka iPhone 2.0) is expected to be announced at WWDC, Apple’s developer event. I will hardly be able to sleep tonight. I’ve my eyes jammed on TechCrunch and Engadget for the live coverage and news of WWDC. It will be starting today (Yes, it’s 9th July here already) at 10:00AM PT / 1:00PM ET. I really wish I could attend this. WWDC is going to be the most over-covered event of the year!

The rumours are just endless! Hundreds of fake images (claiming to be real) of 3G iPhone are available on technology blogs. Who knows, may be one of them might be the real one. Even I posted them (1, 2) some time back.

What do you say? Excited about the event? How many of you are actually going to stay awake for the event? :D

Dial-up users or slow connection users can click the link Load Basic HTML while Gmail loads and it will open much faster than before. You won’t the usual Ajax-powered Gmail, but still, you can at least check your mails if you are in a hurry.

Gmail’s loading times have also been reduced to a great extent. Previously, Gmail required 24 requests to load the Inbox, but now it has been reduced to only 4 requests. [Via BlogsDNA]

Yes, finally. After lots of petitions and blog posts, Facebook has finally rolled out an important feature that was needed by many. Facebook’s Private Messaging feature has been updated with a basic search functionality.

Now you can search your Facebook messages in Inbox through the newly added search functionality. Previously, there was no other way to find messages, other than going through the pages one by one. So users have thousands of messages in their Inbox, and finding old messages for them was a very difficult task. And most of the times, old messages became essentially unfindable.

Currently, only some users have this new functionality. Hopefully, it will be rolled out for everyone soon.

A couple of weeks ago, some guy backed up my blog data (thanks to BlogBackupOnline), and was about to sell it off on Digital Point forums under the title Database of PR3 Blog for Sale (hey, I’m PR4 not PR3 :P ) for $20. I was watching my blog visitors through the Live plugin when surprisingly I started getting visitors from Digital Point. Just out of curiosity, I opened the traffic source, and found what was going on.

I reported that guy, but instead of banning him, those idiot admins at DP banned me for using multiple accounts even though I just have one. Luckily, the database wasn’t sold to anyone! :D When I found that I’m banned on DP, I made 10 new accounts and when I checked them today, they all were still working lol. The whole point of this article was to make all the bloggers aware of the disadvantages of this service.

I backed up three blogs yesterday. There was no one to stop me! You can see the screenshot below:

What could be done?

Hmm.. I went through the FAQ pages of BlogBackupOnline and found their support email address (support@techrigy.com). Everyone mail and request them to block their blog from getting backed up. Or what happened with me, could also happen with you!

Recently, at the Apple’s 5th Apple event, they revealed some new features in their products, price-cuts and some iPhone announcements. But the major announcement for the day was the new product line of their iPod series. The latest addition in the iPod family is called iPod Touch.

iPod Touch

What comes first tin your mind when you see the image above? iPhone, right? But no, this is not the iPhone. It is the new product in the iPod product family :) . It has the same screen size as the iPhone, but it is thinner at around 8mm. It has 3.5 inch wide-screen display with the “slide to unlock” feature. The best feature I liked is the built-in “WiFi” through which, you can browse the web, buy music with iTunes and watch videos on YouTube (a built-in application in iPod Touch). The battery lasts quite long as compared to other iPods. Battery will last 22 hrs. for audio playback and 5 hrs. for video playback. As for the prices are concerned, 8GB version comes for $299 and the 16GB for $399. It’s expected to release on Tuesday next week. So we’ll have to wait and see what pans out :) .

iPod Classic

This was formerly know as iPod Video. This is also coming out somewhere next week. Comes in two flavors, 80GB and a whopping 160GB.

iPod Nano

They now also support video playback. it has 2-inch QVGA, 320 x 240 display screen and the screen is 65% brighter then the previous versions. Comes in two flavors, 4GB ($149) and 8GB ($199) versions. These are also hitting the stores next weekend.

iPod Shuffle

Still the same, nothing new. 1GB comes for $79.

How’s the new family? :D I’m planning to buy the new iPod Nano when it comes out. The new one is really cute and cool :) .

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has recently announced about the new look for the old PlayStation. It will be bundled with their karaoke title, SingStar Pop. The color looks really sexy and it’s one of my favorite colors :D .

The consoles features the same old ultra-sleek body and everything is same as it was in the Charcoal Black and Satin Silver PlayStation 2s. Major additions in this edition are:

• SingStar and Pop (high quality USB microphones)
• CD Playback capabilities
• DTS (Digital Surround Sound)
• Ethernet port for network gaming

Jack Tretton, president and CEO of SCE, said:

Now coming back to the topic, Burj Dubai is being constructed in “New Downtown” of Dubai and on Saturday, 21 July 2007, the developers reported it’s height as 512.1 metres with 141 completed floors surpassing the Taipei 101 (509.2 m) as the tallest high-rise building in the world. Amazing isn’t it? :)

Facts:

Now I’ll tell some facts about this amazing structure and in the end there are some pictures of its still on going construction.

• In February 2007, the Burj Dubai surpassed the Sears Tower as the building with the most floors in the world.
• On 20 July 2007, the head of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), Antony Wood, has confirmed that it “has now surpassed the height of Taipei 101 structurally (concrete).”
• According to the press reports, skilled carpenters at the site earn US$7.60 (£4.34)/day, and laborers earn US$4.00 (£2.84) there.
• The tower’s water system will supply an average of about 946,000 liters of water per day.
• The building’s service/fireman’s elevator will have a capacity of 5500kg and will be the world’s tallest service elevator.
• There will be about 66 double deckers that will move at the speed of 18m/s (40mph), making it the worlds fastest.
• The building’s curtain wall (glass and metal) is equivalent to 17 football (soccer) fields or 25 American football fields.
• At the peak cooling times, the tower will require approximately 10,00 tons of cooling per hour which is equivalent to the capacity provided by 10,00 tons of melting ice.

VLC Player

Also known as Video Lan Player is a must-have for every computer-geek just like having Harry Potter’s seventh book for a Harry Potter fan. It plays every thing you can imagine. As far as I remember, I have never had any compatibility problems with this player. You can say “It plays almost anything you throw at him“. I would recommend you to download this and try it out. It supports file formats such as MPEG, MOV, AVI, ASF, WMx, OGG, WAV, 3GP (this is just the start) and more. And one more thing, it’s skinnable just like other good applications. Download the best skins from here. The default is just like giving you a heart-attack, so get the skins now!

KMPlayer

KMPlayer is a free movie and audio player that supports a wide range of codecs and file formats, it has full DVD playback functionality. Tons of built in features like video and audio filters, subtitle, zoom, pan & scan, open streaming media, play from TV card, camera etc. It seems to be a combination of VLC Player, BS Player and Windows Media Player.

GOM Player

A very nice player, except that it does not come bundled with all the codecs. They are a few included, but still you’ll need some like FLV4. Even their playlist displaying is not good. Instead of showing the track/artist name, it shows the actual location of the file in the PC. Some of the main features of GOM Player are given below.

• Plays broken AVI files
• Supports subtitles
• Supports a number of formats
• Screen Capture

Winamp

Now if you are a music-lover and want a nice treat for playing them or managing your files, then get Winamp. This is a player that will fulfil your music playing needs. It has one of the best media library, and the sound quality is at the top! You can even more enhance it with DFX Audio Enhancer.

I wanted to include BS Player, but the recent versions come with adware in it. It was among the best players like KM Player, VLC Player but this adware is made it to go down :( .
