I haven’t much played with the browser yet, but from my first impressions, it is too buggy for a beta release. If you try to load this website, the Facebook widget in the sidebar won’t even load.

IE9 is definitely fast, but I hope the Internet Explorer team really fixes all the bugs and glitches which are available in the first beta release.

The Beta 1, weighing in at 20.2MB introduces the crash protection feature for users to continue their browsing sessions in case there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins for Firefox. The Beta also introduces a new Add-ons manager along with several other features such as WebSockets support, a new HTML 5 parser, a Web Console analysis tool, native support for the HD HTML5 WebM video format. Firefox 4.0 Beta also brings with it fast page rendering thanks to the lazy frame construction.

The Beta version also brings scores of visual changes to please the eye candy of the Mac users, with stop and reload buttons unified into a single one, bookmarks bar being entirely replaced by bookmarks button and placing tabs at the very top of the browser window in a newly designed UI theme. The Mozilla team is working hard to bring the Mac theme to Firefox which will give users the ability to put tab bars on top in OSX.

The Beta 1 is a great upgrade which brings the needed features to Firefox for Mac users. Going further into the beta, Mozilla promises to bring more improvements such as advanced privacy controls, hardware graphics acceleration, JavaScript performance optimizations, and the ability to synchronize settings, passwords, bookmarks, history, open tabs and other customizations across multiple devices at the same time.

Senior Technical Evangelist at Adobe Systems Ted Patrick shows off Adobe Flash 10.1 running on the Motorola Droid X. However, the release date is still not confirmed but by looking at the progress, we can say that the day is near. Adobe has also made arrangements for the launch of Flash 10.1 for other mobile devices as well. We all know that Verizon Wireless will be the official carrier for Droid X but they haven’t said much about the release date either or the pricing plans. Windows Live Essentials 4 is still under private beta testing, but it has now leaked over the web and available for download.

This leaked build is only for a few users allowed to beta test the apps, but a patch has been created which would allow you to atleast try out the next Windows Live messenger 2010.

This is still an early release and many features may differ as the final version approaches, but the main new feature in this release is the social and expanded contacts view.

Paint.NET 3.5 has gone through four beta updates before the final version came out. The latest version now supports Aero and has been enhanced for Windows Vista and 7.

Paint.NET 3.5 New Changes

It has a refreshed user interface with new icons and visual styling. Lots of other new features are added. A full list is added below.

• Refreshed user interface with new icons and visual styling. On Windows 7 and Vista, it is enhanced for Aero and “glass”.
• Performance and memory usage have been extensively optimized throughout the entire program.
• .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is now required, which has many built-in performance improvements.
• Disk space usage has been reduced by about 12MB by using NTFS compression on installation files.
• Compression for .PDN images has been improved.
• Effect dialog responsiveness has been improved.
• Images open much faster, especially on single CPU systems.
• Startup performance on most systems will be better by about 20%.
• Memory usage has been reduced when more than one image is open.
• Rendering quality has been greatly improved when zoomed in.
• The selection outline is no longer animated. Instead of “dancing ants”, a context-sensitive “XOR” stipple pattern is drawn. This has allowed for improved performance and lowered CPU consumption (and longer battery life).
• The font manager for the Text tool has been completely rewritten, which fixes many problems seen with crashes and missing fonts.
• On Windows XP, the Text tool has improved reliability and font selection (it uses GDI instead of GDI+).
• On Windows 7, the Text tool will use DirectWrite (instead of GDI) which gives better performance and greatly improved quality.
• On Windows Vista, you may install DirectX 11 to enable this feature; otherwise GDI will be used.
• The toolbar font list has improved usability, rendering quality, and significantly improved performance.
• The toolbar font list no longer requires an application restart to recognize newly installed fonts.
• When many fonts are installed, both memory usage and startup performance have been greatly improved.
• It is now drastically easier to move a very small selection.
• All installation prerequisites are now installed automatically, such as .NET and Windows Installer.
• Updates are now downloaded in the background, and installed after you exit the application. In previous versions, this was a foreground task and you could not use Paint.NET while the update was downloaded.
• Added a “Utilities” menu. Updates, Languages, and Plugin Errors have been moved there.
• Added a “Manage Fonts” command to the Utilities menu. This will launch the built-in Windows font control panel.
• Clicking the middle mouse button on an image thumbnail will now close the image.
• Improved the Unfocus effect.
• The DirectDraw Surface (.DDS) file type now allows you to select the resampling algorithm for auto-generated mip-maps.
• A processor that supports SSE is now required (almost all CPUs purchased this decade satisfy this).
• Fixed an issue with Gaussian Blur and its treatment of alpha values.
• Fixed a crash with the “Units” selector in the toolbar.
• Fixed a crash due to an overflow that prevented very large images from working (64-bit only).
• Fixed many other miscellaneous glitches and crashes.

Since then, many alpha and beta versions have been released to take public feedback/suggestions and track down any bugs or errors in Opera 10.

Today, Opera released the  RC (Release Candidate) version of Opera 10 which could be considered as the final version since RCs are just a step before the final release. Lots of bugs have been fixed in this version along with other improvements.

One thing you would notice is the new Opera application icon that comes with Opera 10 RC.

Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta version is now available for download. Several new features and improvements have been added.

According to Yahoo, the webcam feature has been completely redesigned which allow users to make high-quality (including full screen) video calls with synced audio right in the IM windows.

Contact list has also been enhanced. The normal contact list is now displayed with status messages of contacts, or optionally, you can also add their Twitter status or other social stream updates. Plus you now have more ways to organize your contacts.

With this beta release, Yahoo! is expecting back some feedback on Yahoo! Messenger 10. Try this out and let Yahoo! know what you think of it.
