Google is slowly bringing all the Facebook features and experience right on Google+. Apart from the usual notifications in Google Bar, email notifications and mobile push notifications – you can also get SMS notifications on your phone!

These SMS notifications are not enabled by default. Just like Facebook SMS notifications, you will have to add your phone number so that Google could send you Google+ notifications.

How to Get Google+ SMS Notifications

NOTE: SMS notifications are currently only for the US and India.

Follow the steps below to enable your free Google+ SMS notifications:

• Go to Google+ settings (click the gear icon at top right).
• Under “Set delivery preferences”, look for the option for Phone.
• Click on the option “Add phone number”.
• Choose your country from US or India. Enter your number and click Send for verification code.
• Verify, and you should be able to get Google+ SMS notifications now on any phone!

Google is trying to go head-to-head with Facebook with their latest project, Google+. Just like Facebook has the option to download or backup all your profile data on your computer, Google+ also allows you to quite Google+ anytime with the addition of downloading all your Google+ profile and Google account data with Google Takeout.

Google Takeout allows you to download a copy of your data stored within Google products.

This is useful when you plan to quite using Google services for some reason, but still want a backup of your data. Google Takeout creates an archive of your data within Google services and gives you a link to download that.

You can even check online where most of your data is stored within which Google services. You can request a Google+ invitation here!

XPERIA X10 Ginmgerbread update would certainly be a treat for the X10 users since Sony Ericsson seems to have dropped their plans for the Froyo (Android 2.2) update.

According to an official SE blog post,

We plan to bring an upgrade to Android Gingerbread for the XperiaTM X10 to generic trade kits end Q2 / early Q3 this year.

Sony Ericsson wants their XPERIA X10 to bring it in line with their other recently launched Android devices, the XPERIA Play and the XPERIA Arc.

Gingerbread for XPERIA X10 will only be for unlocked devices, and not for devices that are carrier locked. The roll-out is planned to start end Q2/early Q3 this year. Today, XPERIA X10 is available in the market both in generic trade version (unlocked) and in versions customized for operators. Due to the resources available in this special project, they will focus on delivering trade versions of the software.

However, everything is not unknown at this point in time; AllthingsD has reported that Facebook will be introducing a new feature to their service, which is similar to foursquare’s geo-location based check-in service. This news bit has been reported with the aid of ‘multitude of sources inside Facebook’ and also includes the following piece: Facebook is likely to “integrate other third-party services and will give developers on Facebook’s platform geo-location capabilities.”

The official statement from the Saudi government read that, “the manufacturer of the devices [RIM] couldn’t meet the regulatory requirements of the commission and it is not in accordance with the regulations and conditions of licenses issued to service providers, at its present state.” Also it is being reported by various sources that any wireless carriers operating in Saudi Arabia if violate this decision will face a fine of up to US $1.3 billion for not following government orders. Although the messaging services of BlackBerry are blocked, users of Research In Motion’s devices can still make and receive calls and get data traffic on their devices.

The decision follows in line with the heated situation between several Middle Eastern countries and Research In Motion over access to sensitive user information. This has also led to BlackBerry services being barred in other parts of Middle East in subsequent months.

According to the Nokia N8 review by him, it could be another disappointment for Nokia fans. It’s got  12 megapixels camera, which take great photos – a bit better than the Sony Ericsson Satio, but what’s most disappointing is the new Symbian^3 OS.

Nokia N8 will be the first device to run on the Symbian^3, but this OS is still unpolished and Nokia seems to be in a hurry to push out new devices on that OS. Just like other models, this phone also gets slow when filled with lots of music, photos and video files. The device reviewed by Eldar is just a prototype version ,which means the final product that gets shipped could be a lot different and much better.

WordPress 3.0 Beta 1 has been released by WordPress which is available for early beta testing.

The new version features a new theme “Twenty Ten” and many new features and enhancements that are not present in the current version. However, the version is still incomplete and might differ from the final release. So, they are looking for beta testers who can test it especially the following features:

1. Play with the new default theme, Twenty Ten, including the custom background and header options.

2. Custom Post Type functionality has been beefed up. It’s really easy to add new types, so do that and see how it looks!

1. Connect the phone to your PC in PC Suite mode.

3. Now wait till Ovi Suite checks for updates for the application and your phone. Once done, click on the Install button under “Update available”.

4. Check the firmware version and make sure you have created a backup of your phone.

5. Read and follow more on-screen instructions.

6. Create a backup of your current state of the phone which you would be able to restore later.

7. Select the contents you want to backup.

8. Watch the backup process.

How to Use Twitter as a Feed Reader

Well, without going into much details, I’m explaining the procedure in easy points below.

1. Sign up for a new Twitter account. You can use your existing one, but that would only freak out your followers with so many links.

2. Now go to TwitterFeed and signup for a new account. Or use OpenID to sign in.

3. In TwitterFeed, add your favourite blogs’ RSS feeds and connect it with your Twitter account.

4. Now follow the new Twitter account you made from your usual account and get all the latest blog updates in your timeline!

If you want your feeds to be private, you can password-protect the reader Twitter account so only you can follow it.

HCT Sync allows you to sync your calendar items and contacts with Outlook Express (Windows Address Book) or Microsoft Outlook. But due to some issues, I was having problems connecting the device to my PC.

This wasn’t the issue with just Windows XP, but also with Windows 7. After a few searches, I found some workarounds to connect my Hero with HTC Sync but none of them worked as said.

How To Connect HTC Hero with HTC Sync in Windows XP

After a little messing up myself, I found a way to get it fixed and working on Windows 7 and Windows XP. You don’t have to install any drivers or modify files. Just follow the steps below:

1. Download and install the latest HTC Sync.
2. From your HTC Hero, go to Settings > Applications >Development
3. Now check the box for “USB debugging”.
4. Now go to Settings > Data Synchronization > PC
5. Now connect your Hero to the PC with your USB cable.

The data sync should now work fine on Windows XP and 7 both. If you still have problems, do shoot me a comment below and I’ll try to find another workaround till HTC officially releases device drivers for Windows 7.

Before the weekend, Opera came out with a teaser saying “Coming very soon: The next generation in mobile browsing”.

We already guessed it was Opera Mini 5, but today it was officially announced on the Opera blog that the product they teased about was indeed Opera Mini 5 and a beta version will be released very soon.

Excited? Atleast, I am as I use Opera Mini a lot on my J2ME-based cellphones.

Since no web service is infallible, you never know when your account might get hacked, deleted, suspended for false spamming or anything like that where you may lose important data, friends, uploaded photos etc.

Previously, Magpie was the only service that allowed you to make money on Twitter. Then came TwittAd. Now there are two more services that I have included in the list below. There are no confirmations of their reliability, but the following monetizing services for Twitter looks promising.

Magpie

Magpie is the first ad network for Twitter where users can advertise to up to 5,500,000 followers on Twitter and publishers (twitterers) can post custom sponsored tweets to earn money. One thing I liked about this network is that you can Twitterers (publishers) who have their own product to promote can use their earnings to advertise it throough Magpie. Though this network looks really nice, your followers might get annoyed with the sponsored tweets you post.

TwittAd

If you have lots of followers or an active Twitter profile which people visit regularly to check for updates, then you can give TwittAd a try. This service provides Twitter users and advertisers the opportunity for product placement & website promotion on a Twitter user profile. You are asked to use one of the given profile backgrounds which have been optimized for ad places. TwittAd is only good if your profile page gets many visits/hits or it won’t be of any use as most people use desktop/mobile clients for updating Twitter.

Adf.ly

This ad network is a different one from the two mentioned above. Adf.ly is basically a URL shortening service that shrink long URLs to small, tiny ones. But in addition to that, Twitter users can also earn money for each visitor that visits the shortened links. A full page ad is displayed before getting to the original location of the link. These shortened links are not just for Twitter, infact you can also post them on Facebook, blogs, forums etc.

Adjix

Another similar service we have is Adjix which is also a URL shortening service, but display ads in a much better way than Adf.ly. Full page ads are ofcourse, annoying, and readers would never like to press that “Skip the Ad” button everytime they open a link shared you. Adjix just display a small text link ad in the header of whatever website you shortened. It doesn’t come in the way of your followers who just want to open and see where your link leads to. And you conveniently remove tha ad bar by clicking the small “Remove ad” link in the corner.

Out of all the 4 services mentioned above, I believe Adjix to be the winner because it does not come in the way of readers.

Now Sony Ericsson is rumoured to be working on something that’s going to be a big step in the camera phone market, a 12 Megapixel camera phone codenamed as Kotaku!

It is currently in development at the Sony Ericsson labs, and is expected to come out somewhere in 2009. Along with a powerful camera, it is said to feature an iPhone and Tube-like interface with complete touch-screen display.

It is said to be powered by Symbian OS version 9.4 and won’t come packed with everything you wish for. According to various sources, it won’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack or a mini-USB socket. But A2DP Bluetooth support is expected for wireless listening. It is also rumoured that this phone will have a 800 x 480 WVGA display support, CD quality audio performance, and high resolution video support including Mobile TV.

Only time will tell whether it will be a true iPhone or G1 competitor or not, but one thing we are all going to like is the amazing 12MP Cybershot camera!

Just after a week after Microsoft released Windows Live Messenger 9.0, Yahoo releases its popular IM for Windows XP and Vista, and comes packed with many new feaures including the new and improved user-interface.

One method is to display someone else’s chicklet, but over at the thenextweb, Joop has come up with another trick that is being used by many blogs to fool their readers by displaying a high susbcriber count. The video below shows how easy it is to manipulate your number of RSS readers.

If you just got excited on finding out a trick to get more RSS subscribers, snap out of it please. Google must be on its way to patch this up, and display the original number of subscribers a feed has. It will be really interesting to see which blogs loose bunch of subscribers.

If you have ever wanted to hammer down a nail in your lappy (laptop), well, here’s your ultimate chance to do one! A nail-shaped falsh drive can fulfill that desire of yours.

Plankton, a Netherlands based design company, has come out with their first product – a nail-shaped USB drive that can store data up to 2GB.

This fresh twist on USB drive is made of polyurethane and iron. When inserted in your USB port, it looks like a nine-inch nail jammed in your desktop or laptop.

This will be the only nail that comes for about $46. You can order it directly from Plankton‘s website.

Changing the boot screen (start up screen) is very easy but using the right tool to do so is very important. Many free tools offer boot screen replacement, but always mess up with your Windows files and the end result is that you have to re-install Windows all over again.

One of the easiest and safest method I found was by using Tuneup Utilities. It does not increase the computer boot time but it’s good to have a change.

How to change Boot Screen in Windows XP

I’ve done a step-by-step procedure on how you can change your boot screen using Tuneup Utilities.

1) Click here And Download Tune-Up Utilities

2) Once your Done with the Installation, Launch Tuneup Utilities and then Under the Customize and Analyze Menu, click on TuneUp Styler 2 ;

3) A new new window will open with 7 options. Click on “Change the windows XP boot screen, and create or download new boot screens“.

4) A new window will open, where you can load boot screens if you have stored in your computer and/or Download boot screens from the net.

5) You can also create your Own Custom boot screens By clicking on “New screen”

6) To create Custom boot screen using stored images on your computer, click on “Search Local Drives”, Which is positioned on top of the sidebar, and then browse the image.

7 ) The preview of the boot screen will appear, You can then select the Alignment of the image from the sidebar. The program will automatically suggest you the background color, Its your wish to accept the suggestion or not.

8 ) Choose the Position of the Progress Bar Position.

9) Now Finally Click on “Save Boot Screen” button.

10) You Can preview your boot screen By clicking on “Show Large Preview”. If you are satisfied with your custom boot screen Then click “Install Boot Screen” button and it will be set as your Default boot screen. You can change it back to the original one anytime you want. There are many boot screens available for download (Refer to Step: 5), so its not necessary to create your own boot screen.

Technical details of the vulnerability were not released to the public, and Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) states that they have reported it to the Mozilla team and they are now working on a patch, which will be out soon. They also said there are no known exploits at this time.

According to ZDI:

We verified the vulnerability in our lab, acquired it from the researcher, then promptly reported the vulnerability to the Mozilla security team shortly after. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code. Not unlike most browser based vulnerabilities that we see these days, user interaction is required such as clicking on a link in email or visiting a malicious web page.

This vulnerability is not only for Firefox 3, but has also been found in  Firefox 2. So, its better you don’t click any unknown links till the patch isn’t out by Mozilla.

WobZip is a web tool that allows you to uncompress zip files online. It does not require any registration and features quick, safe and easy uncompressing online. Simple browse the file, and click the Uncompress button.
