Microsoft Office Suite Applications Goes Online

Microsoft has been unveiling some really interesting stuff at Professional Developers Conference. Windows Azure and Windows 7 have already made big news in the blogosphere.

Now Microsoft is planning to take its Microsoft Office Suite of applications online. The lightweight web-based version of these apps called, Office Web Applications will provide basic apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc  online which can be accessed from anywhere.

Download Windows 7 Pre-Beta M3 Build 6801

Okay folks, it’s finally out – leaked actually! All the PDC 2008 attendees were distributed a free copy of Windows 7 Pre-Beta by Microsoft.

This alpha version is distributed in a free 160GB external hard disk which includes Windows 7 and all the PDC videos. Build 6801 has been leaked on torrent, which is a build older than what was shown at PDC.

Download Windows Vista SP2 Pre-Beta Via Windows Update

Here’s something all Vista fans are going to like. The next security update, Service Pack 2, that is still in pre-beta can now be downloaded from Windows Update with just a small registry hack.

A couple of weeks ago, few Microsoft beta testers were given Windows VIsta SP2 to download and try. You can now also download Vista SP2 directly from Windows update using the trick given below. This registry trick makes a small change in your registry so that Windows Update thinks you are one of the beta testers.

Windows 7 Introduced, And Screenshots

Windows Azure: Microsoft Cloud OS

Microsoft, today at Professional Developers Conference 2008 announced a new cloud operating system, called Windows Azure. It is an OS that runs entirely from Microsoft’s own infrastructure.

Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s chief software architect, dubbed this OS as Windows Azure (formerly known as Windows Cloud) at PDC yesterday. It looks like a mashup of Amazon EC2 type hosted services, Microsoft Online Services and other developer tools, including similar services that run on Windows Live.

New Apple “Get a Mac” Ads Owns Microsoft

Apple has started airing two new Get a Mac ads that look like a direct response to Microsoft’s I’m a PC ad, which included the comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

Microsoft spent $300 million on their previous advertising campaign, but Apple mocked it down with their latest ‘Mac Vs PC’ ad.

Windows 7 will be called “Windows 7″

Microsoft has finally announced that their upcoming OS will be officially called as Windows 7, the codename itself. This is the first time Microsoft will ever use the codename for the final product.

Mike Nash, of Windows Vista blog, confirmed this yesterday and said that Microsoft will continue to share more details with developers on Windows 7 at PDC and WinHEC conferences.
