Password Protect Images With LockImage

Recently, I had some pictures on my computer which I didn’t want anyone else to see and hence, started Googling for some freeware that could do the job. Although, there are other methods that could have done the job, like locking folders without any software, hiding files in a JPEG or by making invisible folders. But I was looking something more specific for my images only. So, in the end what I found was LockImage.

Password Protect Your Images with LockImage

LockImage is an open-source application that can be used to password-protect images and can be opened on another computer without the need of the application itself. It protects an image by converting it into a password-protected executable and you can view them in an embedded image viewer. The only downside of this application is that images once turned into password-protected executable, cannot be converted back to standard images.

Well, Apple’s new 3G iPhone (aka iPhone 2.0) is expected to be announced at WWDC, Apple’s developer event. I will hardly be able to sleep tonight. I really wish I could attend this. WWDC is going to be the most over-covered event of the year!

VLC Player for iPhoneThe trend of open-source applications being ported for other devices seems to be growing. The most recent is the port of VLC media player for iPhone and iPod Touch. VLC is an open source cross-platform media player that plays just about everything you can feed it. Develeper Zodttd, has dubbed it as VLC4iPhone and it will work on jail broken iPhones only. I think this is going to be one popular application at the Apple Store (launching this Monday).

Note: VLC4iPhone is currently in semi-private Beta testing. You can join in the Beta if you donate to the cause.

Microsoft has launched an online store where people can purchase popular Microsoft products like Windows and Office. The simple, clear site design makes it easier to navigate. Currently, Microsoft Store is only available for Germany and the UK. Other online international stores will come out in 2008 and 2009. Opera 9.5 Snapshot With New Default Skin

Yesterday, a preview “snapshot” version of Opera 9.5 was released and along that, came another surprise for all the Opera fans. Opera 9.5 is almost ready for the official final release, and will be out anytime this month. A makeover was needed for Opera, because the current ‘Classic’ skin has been on for several years now. The new skin that has been added as the default skin is named as ‘Sharp‘ and is currently available in the latest snapshot release of Opera 9.5.

Opera New Default Theme - Sharp

The new skin features a dark metallic look for Opera, and since I love metallic colours, I’m loving this theme. I feel the tab buttons are a little bigger than they should be. May be that’s because I’m used to thin Firefox tabs. And the close button, at the upper right corner of every tab is also very small. I hope they make it bigger in the final release.

Windows XP SP3 Includes Vulnerable Flash Player

Windows XP Service Pack 3 - SP3Wondering another bug? LOL, yeah! Windows XP Service Pack 3 seems to be a never ending portal of bugs. A new bug again, this is simply crazy! One bug ends and the other begins. Previously, the reboot problems were enough for the AMD users, and Microsoft had no idea how to get rid of it, until HP came out with the fix. Phew! Now let’s begin with the latest bug that has been found in SP3.

It’s been reported that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) ships with an out-of-date version of Adobe’s Flash Player that’s vulnerable to recently-spotted attacks, according to Microsoft’s support documentation. Windows XP SP3 includes Flash Player 9.0.115.0, a version released by Adobe Systems Inc. in December 2007, and was superseded by Version 9.0.124.0 on April 8, nearly two weeks before Microsoft decided SP3 was done by giving it a release to manufacturing (RTM) label and sending it out for distribution.
