How to Uninstall Internet Explorer 8

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 was released a couple of days ago, and it brought many new interesting features and improvements over IE7. But since it is still in beta, just like all other beta products of Microsoft, IE8 is also very buggy and people have been complaining about crashes and high memory usage.

Since users who like their daily-to-use applications to be stable and bug-free, would like to uninstall Internet Explorer 8. Below you can how you can uninstall IE8 in Windows XP and Vista.

How to Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP

Uninstallation of IE8 in Windows XP is the old traditional way of going to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel and selecting IE8 from there to remove it.

How to Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows Vista

In Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 8 is not installed as a program but an update for Windows. Since IE8 is not available there by default in Installed Programs, follow the steps below to uninstall it:

  • Open Control Panel and click Programs
  • Then click Programs and Features
  • From the left side menu, click View Installed Updates
  • Select Windows Internet Explorer 8 and Uninstall it.

IE8 will revert back to the default Internet Explorer 7 in Vista.

Same problem but I have found a way out ,however, not yet tested it but others who have said that it worked just fine.

    Here’s the procedure :
Enter your (C:) Drive, enter “WINDOWS”, look for “ie8?. there are a lot of files there but find, “spuninst” (click it of course), and that should uninstall Internet Explorer 8. and the same goes for all the I.E’s.

But here’s a catch, the ie8 folder is hidden file so you have to make it visible to you first.
(If you have hidden files not set ‘on’ you will never find it, nor the IE8 folder mentioned in this thread !! )

To enable viewing this here’s what needs to be done :
    Go:
    Tools
    Folder Options
    View
“Show hidden files and folders”.And then you know what to do.

It’s gonna work just fine.I’m just gonna try it myself.

hey I just forgot to mention that ‘spuninst’ is a folder which contains spuninst.exe file. Click on spuninst then find the spuninst.exe file. Double click it and in a few minutes you will be back to IE7.

YES IT WORKED ! Thanks everyone here for posting to help me Unintall Remove Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. I intalled this beta 2 from Internet Explorer 6 so there was no remove button under Add/Remove Programs Section. I went to the Windows Folder and Found the “ie8” folder and clicked on it. Went in there and found a folder called “spuninst” and clicked on that. There was was a spuninst computer looking icon and I click on it and removed Internet Explorer 8 beta 2. After that restart pc and done.

Anyway if you dont see the ie8 folder make sure you click on Tools>Folder Options>View and click on the radio button “Show Hidden Files Folders”
