Config Gmail as Default Email Client in Firefox 3

Gmail is one of the most popular email services available. I use a popular desktop client, Thunderbird, to receive my Gmail mails and it is my default email client to send emails.

But for people who do not have a mail client configured for their browsers, Firefox 3 has a built-in feature by which they can configure Gmail as the default email client. This trick will enable you to automatically open Gmail when clicked on a mailto link.

1. Go to Gmail and sign in. While in Gmail, copy and paste the following into your browser’s address bar and hit enter.

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler(”mailto”,”https://
mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s”,”Gmail”)

2. Click “Add Application” when you are prompted on the top.

3. To set Gmail as default, click this link and then click Gmail on the window that opens. Check “Remember my choice” and press OK.

4. Done! GMail has been configured as the default email client in your Firefox.
