Orkut is one of the most popular social networking sites, and is most popular in India and Brazil. They keep on adding new features for their users and the first countries to get them are India and Brazil. After adding interesting features like photo-tagging and drag and drop, they are back with another much awaited feature.

Notifications via SMS (text messages) was already there for Brazil users, but recently it has also been rolled out for India and users can now receive new scrap notifications, reply to scraps, get friend info, and much more from your cell phone.

Earlier you needed an Internet-enabled cell phone in order to use Orkut, but now you can directly use it via your cellular operators. To use this service, you will have to first register your mobile number with your Orkut account. Currently, this service is only available for Aircel, BPL, MTNL, Reliance, Spice and Tata networks.

Remember, this service is not free and you will be charged by your carrier. It will be better to check the price list for your carrier.
