Firefox 3.1 Alpha 1 Available For Download

Firefox 3.1 Alpha 1 (Shiretoko) is already here and is now available for download. It looks like yesterday only Firefox 3 was released, and here we are today with the first alpha version of Firefox 3.1.

Firefox 3.1 is scheduled to release by the end of this year which will have a new visual tab switching feature that will work like the Alt + Tab switching feature in Windows.

The only major additions is the improved address bar and some additional CSS3 implementations. Below is a brief list of features listed by CyberNet that are found in this release:

  • Several improvements to the Smart Location Bar
  • A new tab switching behavior
  • Web standards improvements in the Gecko layout engine
  • Text API for the <canvas> element
  • Support for using border images
  • Support for JavaScript query selectors

Remember, most of your extensions won’t work without forcing compatibility. So I’d suggest you to wait till the first beta is out.

But, if you still want to remain on Firefox 3.0 and want to try out the new tab switching feature, give this extension a try.
