Office 2007 SP2 Will Support Open Document Format

Microsoft has announced that they will be adding support for several new document formats in Office 2007. Office 2007 SP2 is planned to release in the first half of 2009, and the major addition in it will be Office 2007’s support for XPS, PDF 1.5, and ODF 1.1 files, among others.

With Office SP2, users will be able to create, open, and edit ODF (Open Document Format) documents, and save documents as XPS, PDF, or ODF files. A few years ago, Microsoft released a Microsoft Word addon to open ODF documents. But after Office 2007 SP2’s release, ODF and PDF support will be built right into the application and won’t require any addons.
