Hello readers once again :) . Time for a new set of links. This week I don’t have as many links as before. Actually I had very busy week so didn’t got much time to read other blogs. But still I have managed to come with some interesting posts. I’m soon going to start a Gmail Signature Generator. I’m still trying to integrate it into WordPress. If it works, I’ll start it somewhere within this week :) .

And yeah, I have also changed the title of my links post from Speed Linking to Sunday Linking, because I always post links on Sundays :D .

Shankar explains how you can change your XP’s start menu to look like Vista’s.

Glock tells us how can we make our old/dead CD’s back to work.

Madhur introduced a new site analysis service called RobotReplay. I’m sure if it’s new or old, but it’s definitely new for me :) .

Shashank tells us 22 reasons why we should shift to WordPress.

Rishi explains some rules for good commenting on other blogs.

And in the last, Jake has come up with the best 10 Blogger themes that are better than the original.

I hope you have a nice time reading them. I’d be glad if you add me in your Technorati favourites :) . Have a nice day!

Free Domains: URL Redirection (Part One)

by Haris on July 22, 2007
in Internet

Are you still stuck on those WordPress.com or Blogger sub-domains? Well, it’s time to get free from sub-domains. I know sub-domains are bad and doesn’t give a good impression. Now, you can also get a domain for free and you won’t even have to pay a single buck! :) The places given below just allow you to have a domain name and direct your domain to another web address. Just a reminder, that the second part is going to have links to some famous sites that offer free top-level-domains :D .

You can choose any one of from below:

UNI.CC

The easiest way to get yourself a free domain. Actually they don’t give TLDs (Top-Level-Domain), they are sub-domains. They offer, web-forwarding services and DNS service. Rememeber my old domain, sizzledcore.UNI.CC :) That was the place where I got the domain from. But now, my new domain is not a free one :D . I’m paying up for that :P . Sign-up now!

How to use .htaccess for Redirection

Recently, when I had a domain change, I needed something in order to transfer all of my traffic from the old domain to the new one. So I used .htaccess for the redirection.

You can also use this, by typing the following in your .htaccess:

RewriteEngine OnRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^.*oldwebsite\.com$ [NC]

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.preferredwebsite.net/$1 [R=301,L]

Replace oldwebsite\.com with the current website and replace http://www.preferredwebsite.net with the new website URL where you want to redirect the traffic to.

If you want to know what did I used for my old domain, then see below:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^sizzledcore.uni.cc$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.sizzledcore.uni.cc$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.sizzledcore.com [R=301,L]

3 ways to speed up Acrobat Reader

in Softwares, Tips and Tricks

I know Acrobat Reader takes a lot of time to open and most of all, eats a lot of memory. And worst of all, it sometimes even gets opened itself when clicked to a PDF link in a browser. If you don’t have a high-end PC, you can also run out of memory at that time, resulting in having you lose a lot of work you have been doing.

So to get this fixed, I have found three ways by which you can speed up Acrobat Reader by 75% :D .

Best Replacements for Windows Media Player

in Computers, Softwares, Technology

Now you all know that Windows Media Player is one the worst players available. So here I have some replacements for it. I would recommend all WMP users to switch to something better. And that also when all the other good applications are free to use.

Now, let’s start the list :)

VLC Player

Also known as Video Lan Player is a must-have for every computer-geek just like having Harry Potter’s seventh book for a Harry Potter fan. It plays every thing you can imagine. As far as I remember, I have never had any compatibility problems with this player. You can say “It plays almost anything you throw at him“. I would recommend you to download this and try it out. It supports file formats such as MPEG, MOV, AVI, ASF, WMx, OGG, WAV, 3GP (this is just the start) and more. And one more thing, it’s skinnable just like other good applications. Download the best skins from here. The default is just like giving you a heart-attack, so get the skins now!

Want to rename your Recycle Bin to something more funny? Like dust bin, hungry bin, litter box etc. Just follow the simple steps and you will be able to change the name of your Recycle Bin.

  • Go to Start > Run and type regedit to open Registry Editor.
  • Now navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}.
  •  Now select (Default) , right-click it and select Modify.
  • The current value would be Recycle Bin. Change it to whatever you want.

I have renamed my Recycle Bin to Dust Bin :D . One more thing, make a backup of your registry before trying out any tricks. I won’t be responsible for any damage to your system.

I hope you enjoyed this little trick.
